Pole barns & pole buildings
The all-purpose building on most operations — half storage, half workspace. A coated slab stops the concrete dusting into everything you keep in there and gives you a floor you can actually sweep.
Machine sheds & equipment storage
Where the tractors, skid steer, sprayer and implements live. Steel wheels, jack stands, dropped hitches and hydraulic drips are all things a properly bonded flake system handles better than bare concrete.
Farm shops & repair bays
The corner where the real work happens. Fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid and solvents sit on the topcoat instead of soaking into the slab, and a light-colored flake blend makes a dropped bolt findable.
Why Farm Floors Are Different
An ag slab isn't a garage slab
Same systems, different problem. Four things we look at on a farm building that we wouldn't think twice about in an attached garage.
Fuel, fertilizer and fluids
The clear topcoat is what takes diesel, hydraulic fluid, oil, and the fertilizer and de-icer that get tracked in. On bare concrete those soak in and stay. On a sealed floor they sit on top where you can wash them off.
Unheated buildings move
Most pole buildings aren't heated, so the slab goes through the full Wisconsin freeze-thaw swing every year. That's the strongest argument for polyurea in an ag building — it stays flexible and moves with the concrete instead of cracking as it works.
Ag slabs often need a moisture seal
Pole building slabs are frequently poured without a vapour barrier underneath, which means moisture moves up through the concrete and takes coatings off from below. We check for it before recommending anything. Where it's needed, the moisture seal adds $0.50 per square foot — and where it isn't, you don't pay for it.
Equipment traffic, not car traffic
A machine shed floor takes far more concentrated weight than a home garage. We look at what actually rolls across it before specifying the build.

Can you coat a pole barn floor?
Yes — pole buildings, machine sheds, equipment storage and farm shops are all work we do. The system is the same full-flake epoxy or polyurea we put in garages; what changes is how we spec it, because ag buildings are usually unheated, see heavier equipment, and often have slabs poured without a vapour barrier.
Do pole barn slabs need a moisture seal?
Often, yes — more often than a house garage. Many ag slabs were poured without a vapour barrier underneath, so ground moisture moves up through the concrete and can lift a coating from below. We test for it before recommending a system. If your slab needs the seal it adds $0.50 per square foot; if it doesn't, it isn't in your quote.
Which system is better for an unheated farm building?
Usually polyurea, though we'd want to see the slab before saying so for certain. Unheated buildings take the full freeze-thaw swing, and polyurea stays flexible enough to move with concrete that's working. It also tolerates cooler installation conditions, which matters when you're trying to get a floor done outside the summer.
Will it stand up to a skid steer and tractor tires?
That's what the preparation is for. Mechanically diamond grinding the slab means the base coat bonds into the concrete rather than sitting on top of it, and full flake broadcast to refusal plus a clear topcoat gives you a surface built for equipment rather than foot traffic. Do you coat milkhouse or parlour floors?
Those carry sanitation requirements we won't claim to meet without discussing your specific situation first. Call and tell us what you need — we'd rather have that conversation than take on a floor that has to pass a standard we haven't confirmed.
How much does a pole barn floor coating cost?
Agricultural buildings are quoted on site rather than from a published rate. Size, slab condition, moisture, and what the building is used for all move the number more than they do on a residential garage. The visit and the written quote are free.
